Title: Senior Manager Export & Sanctions Control
Zaventem, BE
Help build the next generation of our Export Controls & Sanctions practice
KPMG Belgium is investing in the further growth of its Export Controls & Sanctions practice. We are looking for an experienced professional who combines deep technical expertise with the ambition to develop sophisticated client solutions, lead complex engagements, grow client relationships and help shape our market proposition and team. You will join an established Trade & Customs practice and international network, while having significant room to influence how we further develop this capability in Belgium.
Role & Responsibilities
As a (Senior) Manager Export Controls & Sanctions, you will:
- Help build and scale KPMG Belgium's Export Controls & Sanctions offering, including defining priority propositions and sectors, developing solutions and thought leadership, strengthening delivery capabilities and helping grow the team.
- Take an active role in developing the market by originating and shaping opportunities, building relationships with existing and prospective clients, developing go-to-market initiatives and representing KPMG externally, in close collaboration with partners and the wider Trade & Customs team.
- Lead complex advisory and implementation engagements covering export controls, sanctions and associated trade compliance requirements.
- Advise clients on EU and international export control and sanctions frameworks, including dual-use and military goods, technology transfers, brokering, technical assistance, embargoes and restrictive measures.
- Advise clients on emerging export control and economic security developments, including controls affecting advanced technologies, R&D, intangible technology transfers and complex global supply chains.
- Design, assess and enhance Internal Compliance Programmes, governance models, policies, procedures and controls.
- Lead product and technology classification, licensing strategies, end-use and end-user due diligence, restricted-party screening and transaction reviews.
- Lead sensitive compliance reviews and internal investigations into potential export control or sanctions breaches, including root-cause analysis, remediation and support in interactions or voluntary disclosures with competent authorities, working alongside legal counsel where appropriate.
- Help clients embed export and sanctions controls into business processes and technology solutions, translating regulatory requirements into practical operating models.
- Build trusted relationships with compliance, legal, tax, supply chain, procurement, sales and technology stakeholders, including senior leadership.
Skills & Qualifications
- You have at least 7 years of relevant experience in export controls, sanctions, trade compliance or a closely related field, gained in consulting, industry, government or legal practice.
- You have deep knowledge of EU export control and sanctions requirements and a strong working understanding of relevant international regimes. Experience with US export controls and sanctions and/or UK regimes is a strong advantage.
- You have hands-on experience with key export control and sanctions processes, such as dual-use and/or military classification, licensing, end-use and end-user controls, restricted-party screening, sanctions due diligence and Internal Compliance Programmes.
- You have a commercial mindset and are motivated by the opportunity to grow a practice, not only deliver technical work.
- You have experience leading complex projects, workstreams and teams, preferably in an international or consulting environment.
- You can translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into pragmatic, risk-based advice and workable business processes.
- You combine a strategic mindset with a hands-on, delivery-focused approach and take ownership of quality, timing and budget.
- You are a strong communicator who can explain sensitive and complex topics clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- You enjoy coaching colleagues and working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial and fast-growing environment.
- You are fluent in English and Dutch, with good knowledge of French.
